What is KYS?
KYS is an effort for Muslims to better understand their salaat from the basis of authentic sources.
KYS looks at the physical / physiological aspects of the salaat that are seen and doesn’t look into matters related to spirituality.

Why this project?
Basically there are 2 reasons.
1.) Many years ago I came across a person who during the course of a discussion, told me that our salaat has no basis or connection with authentic ahadeeth. He said that our salaat was ‘made up’ by scholars along history. His statement disturbed me but I wasn’t able to prove him wrong since I wasn’t educated on the topic.
2.) Having lived & travelled across a few continents, I noticed slight differences in the way people offered salaat. I tried understanding the reasons for the differences but I wasn’t fully satisfied with my findings.

What did I do ?
I broke down a standard 2 raka’ salaat into 44 steps; starting from ‘Facing the Qiblah’ to the adhkaar done after completion of salaat, including all the common steps that I’ve seen during my life.
I chose the 6 canonical books of hadeeth (in full volumes) that will be the source of my research
These are all the Sahih ahadeeth from BUKHARI, MUSLIM, ABU DAWOUD, AN-NASAI, TIRMIDHI and IBN MAJAH
It is a well known fact that the Quran doesn’t specify details on how to offer salaat; hence I didn’t use it as a source
Point to note is that I did not look into the fiqh aspects of salaat
I started reading through each of these books to find hadeeth that will match 1 or more than 1 of the 44 steps of salaat.
I have documented it all in English and Arabic, along with the hadeeth number

How to use this website?
Step 1
Choose a particular step of salaat that you are interested in. However ideally it would be better to start from the beginningStep 2
Choose the hadeeth book that you would want to read with regards to that step of salaatStep 3
Try to go into as much as detail with the different booksStep 4

1. Alhamdulillah all the ‘usual suspect’ steps of salaat are well documented across the 6 books of ahadeeth.
2. There are reports of Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) praying slightly differently at different times.
3. A certain step of salaat needs to be investigated acorss various books to gain a full understanding
4. Translation of Ahadeeth can be read; but they can be best understood only in Arabic.
5. This project can be the start of understanding our salaat. However it cannot be complete without guidance of scholars.
For example; certain hadeeth may seem to be in contradiction with others. To understand this better, you need to consult a scholar using hadeeth found in KYS as evidence.

Firstly; I am not a scholar. I am only an average everyday muslim currently living and working in the Middle East.
I have also spent many years living in the Indian sub-continent and the western world.
I am an Engineer by profession and currently a Management professional.
First and foremost, I thank Allah Subhana wa ta’aala who chose me for this task and blessed me with the means to achieve what I have.
At the initial stages I received a lot of support from the late Sheikh Imam Abdul Basit Al-Arkani (UAE). May Allah grant him the highest level in jannah. Ameen!

KYS uses two well-known and reputed sources for its hadeeth text & English translation.
Both are pending approval.
The hadeeth number that I have mentioned are taken from both these sources
